Foods You Can Eat to Reduce the Stains on Front Teeth

Your incisors-the teeth on the front used for biting and cutting-are your most visible teeth, and can be very noticeable when they are stained. Fortunately, there are some foods you can eat to cut down on staining.

Water. Yes, technically water is not a food, but drinking plenty of water can do wonders for your teeth. It rinses out the mouth-thus decreasing the amount of damaging acids and other things that can damage and stain your teeth.

It also acts to rinse the teeth off and remove any stain-causing elements left behind by other foods such as dark berries.

Dairy products. Cheese, yogurt, and other dairy products increase the production of saliva in your mouth, which helps keep your teeth clean. Also, these foods contain compounds that help protect your teeth and ward off stains.

Apples. Apples have a few benefits for your teeth. First, they have a high water content, which means more water swishing around your teeth to protect them. Second, their texture is mildly abrasive and can help keep your teeth clean by scraping stain-causing plaque or other compounds off of them.

Strawberries. Although strawberries are dark berries and thus would seem to stain your teeth, the truth is that they are great for keeping your teeth white. This is because strawberries contain malic acid, which is an enzyme that acts to whiten your teeth.

Celery and carrots. Like apples, celery and carrots are slightly abrasive and can help scrape your teeth as you chew. In addition, they can kill certain kinds of bacteria in your mouth, helping to lessen the staining that you can find from plaque and other deposits on your teeth.

All these foods, when combined with regular brushing and flossing, can help keep your teeth white. Give them a try today!
