Colder Weather and Bad Breath

Posted on 12/20/2016 by Office Manager
A woman suffering from bad breath.
During the coldest parts of the year, it can be a bit harder to hide bad breath. We tend to keep our mouths open a bit more due to stuffy noses, huffing into our hands to keep them warm, and trying to breathe more quickly with the frigid air. If you are going into the colder weather with a problem with halitosis, see your dentist about what the cause may be.

Until You See Your Dentist, Try These Bad Breath Remedies

Gargling with a bit of water and a nicely scented essential oil can really help when you are battling bad breath. It gets into the crevices of your mouth, the depths of your cheeks, and down into the top of your throat. This can help rid your mouth of any bacteria that may be adding to the bad breath, and get your mouth in a better state of health.

Oil pulling has been shown to help rid the mouth of a lot of bacteria that would otherwise be stuck in the mouth. Since the oil is thicker than a mouthwash, it gets more bacteria out of the mouth. However, it is still thin enough to get into all of the same areas that a mouthwash can go. You can even add a couple drops of essential oil to your oil before using it to give it a double benefit.

If you want to avoid having bad breath this winter, consider using essential oils and oil pulling to help rid your mouth of anything that could be contributing to the cause. Once they are able to see you, contact our office to find out what options they can provide in terms of narrowing down what is causing your bad breath. Just because you have a little bad breath now, doesn't mean you need to keep having it indefinitely.
