Same-Day Crowns

A dental crown is the best way to protect a tooth that has had its strength, shape, or integrity compromised. Dental crowns allow the patient to keep their natural tooth structure, while both restoring the function of the tooth and protecting it from additional damage. The traditional crown is custom made in a dental laboratory, which can take weeks to complete. At Spalding Dental, we offer our patients same-day crowns because they are made in our office, not in a dental lab. This means that our patients are fitted with their new permanent crown all in one visit!

We invite you to let Dr. Charles Spalding or Dr. Shannon Spalding to show you how same day crowns can save you time and money.

How are same day crowns made?

At Spalding Dental, we are able to create same-day crowns using the latest in dental technology. Our team is trained to create customized crowns using a computer-aided design (CAD) system which then sends the perfect digital information to our own personal milling station, known as a computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) system, which creates your customized crown in less than one hour.

Traditional crowns are made from a variety of materials, including gold, porcelain, porcelain over metal, and acrylic. There are various pros and cons to all of these materials. Same day crowns are made from acrylic, which is a strong, durable product that will visually look just like your natural teeth, with the same translucency and coloring.

The Same-Day Crown Process

Creating your same-day crown is a very similar process to receiving a traditional crown, it begins with digital impressions, preparing the tooth, and then fitting the crown. The main difference is that instead of sending the information to a dental lab, we send the information to our own personalized milling station. This means that your dental crown is crafted right here, in our own office. Essentially, we have cut out the middleman, saving you time and money.

The process includes:
•  Preparing a tooth:This may involve removing decay, or infected pulp through a root canal therapy, or ensuring that the tooth is clean.
•  Taking digital impressions:No messy molds, we digitally take 3D images of your oral cavity. This helps us precisely create a crown that fits your mouth, including the dentitions needed for correct chewing function.
•  Review your images in CAD:Dr. Charles Spalding or Dr. Shannon Spalding will review your digital impression and make modifications as needed.
•  Send your digital crown to our CAM machine:With the crown now digitally ready, we send the information to our CAM machine for milling. Using a small block of acrylic, we create a strong, durable dental crown in less than one hour.

The function and lifetime of same-day crowns is exactly the same as traditional crowns. This means that the only real difference to our patients is when you receive a same-day crown as opposed to the wait time of a traditional crown, saving you both time and money.
